How the Expert levels are spread
The median Expert chart is 26. Every Expert chart falls between 22 and 30, so each step up the ladder is a real difference in difficulty.

|---|---|---|
| Expert 30 | 2 | 1% |
| Expert 29 | 6 | 3% |
| Expert 28 | 13 | 7% |
| Expert 27 | 28 | 16% |
| Expert 26 | 47 | 27% |

All four difficulties side by side
The lowest, median and highest chart level for each difficulty. The ranges overlap at the edges: the hardest Hard chart, 26, is above the easiest Expert charts at 22.
For a player moving up from Hard, that overlap is the way in. The 6 Expert 22 charts are easier than the top of Hard, which makes them a gentler first Expert than the level number alone suggests.
| Difficulty | Lowest | Median | Highest |
|---|---|---|---|
| Easy | 1 | 4 | 12 |
| Normal | 8 | 11 | 18 |
| Hard | 15 | 19 | 26 |
| Expert | 22 | 26 | 30 |
What does and does not predict difficulty
BPM is a poor guide
The fastest song, KANADE at 166 BPM, is only Expert 23. The slowest, Renai Circulation at 90 BPM, is Expert 24. Across the whole list, tempo and Expert level barely move together, so a song's speed is no shortcut to how hard its chart is. A slow song can carry a demanding chart, and a fast one can be forgiving.
Hard to Expert is a big step
Expert is a median of 7 levels above Hard, and the gap ranges from 4 to 10. Clearing a song on Hard is not a reliable sign that its Expert chart is within reach; check the Expert level itself, and expect a jump of several levels even on a song you already know well.
Working up the ladder
With most charts clustered around Expert 26, there are plenty of songs at each step below the top to practise on. Between the common level and the top tier, Expert 27 to 28 hold 41 songs: the natural bridge before attempting the hardest ones. Every song's four chart levels, with BPM and singer, are on the Songs page, and the Chart Finder filters them by level, BPM and generation.
