This Servant calls herself "Minamoto-no-Raikou," the most powerful Mystic Slayer and the epitome of the Heian warrior ideal. However, her True Name is Ushi Gozen...a being who controls lightning itself and can only be called an unholy transgressor.

Minamoto-no-Raikou is not a false name, but neither is it the whole truth. Her other True Name is Ushi Gozen. According to legend, Ushi Gozen was Minamoto-no-Raikou's brother. In truth, she is the manifestation of Raikou's abominable demonic side, inherited through her nature as an oni child of Gozu-Tenno. This means she is the child who received divine power similar to that of Taishakuten, the god of Jetavana. Ushi Gozen is a legendary being related to the God of Thunder and Emperor of the Heavens, Indra.

Divine Oni Manifestation: A A skill that is similar to, yet distinct from, the demonic skills oni possess. It is typically a composite skill consisting of Divinity, Morph, and Monstrous Strength, among others. In this game the skill has led to Ushi Gozen changing her appearance to that of a young girl. Lone Warrior: C A skill that hides one's class and displays false parameters to conceal one's identity. It is also used as a restraint against destructive impulses. This skill is typically not used in this game. Unholy Transgressor: EX The power of an aberrant, raging demon god. It grants a short-term boost to the user.

In a Holy Grail War, it would be difficult to release its True Name, as it is an indiscriminate, massively destructive Noble Phantasm that prioritizes the scale of an Anti-City Noble Phantasm rather than Anti-Heroic Spirit. Its True Name is not typically released in this game.

Long ago, Raikou's father, Minamoto-no-Mitsunaka, nearly killed the infant Raikou. It was only her mother's intervention that led him to spare her. After being raised in a temple far from home, her father summoned her to begin her education for her eventual role as the leader of the Minamoto clan. However, Minamoto-no-Mitsunaka did not treat Raikou as human being, nor did he interact with her as a father would with his own child. Rather, he treated her as nothing more than a weapon—a monstrous being with inhuman power. The young Raikou was therefore expected to be no more than an emotionless weapon. She wore a custom-made black armor fashioned from the bones and blood of monsters and she continued to serve as a weapon for slaughtering monsters, living as neither a human nor a woman. Minamoto-no-Mitsunaka's control came to an end when Raikou met Kaidoumaru, later known as Sakata Kintoki, as Raikou's feelings towards Kintoki were too strong, overruling Mitsunaka's orders.

Ushi Gozen's Spirit Origin has substantially reduced maternal instincts, especially compared to the Berserker Minamoto-no-Raikou's Spirit Origin. This is somewhat related to her appearing as a young girl. By manifesting in her physical and mental state prior to meeting Kintoki, she establishes herself as a murderous weapon devoid of maternal instincts. In the Singularity, she initially acts as Shousetsu's Servant. Though she calls herself Rider, her true class is Avenger, as Ushi Gozen did not forget the events of the Waxing Moon Ritual and believed it appropriate to manifest as a fiery demon of vengeance, incapable of letting go of a grudge. (However, her Spirit Origin and Noble Phantasm are the same as when she was a Rider.) After being summoned to Chaldea, her dangerous nature remains unchanged, even though she attempts to conceal it at a surface level. Thus Iori, Yamato Takeru, Shousetsu, Raikou, Kintoki, Tsuna, and Chiyome are all apparently taking turns secretly monitoring her.
