Pope Johanna was the first female pope, appointed to her position as Leo IV's successor in the late 9th century...or so the story goes. In truth, she was merely a fictional figure invented during the 13th century, and a subject of debate among anti-pope and anti-Catholic factions for several centuries. In the 19th century, her existence was definitively disproven.

Personality Though Johanna is a fictional figure, she has manifested as a Servant as a result of many, many prayers. She is well aware of her own transient nature and so is determined to leave as lasting a mark on the world as she can manage to demonstrate that she was, in fact, here. She approves of earnest prayer, lively religious debate, and a pious, virtuous life. Still, she can't quite shed her easygoing air and doesn't deny that it detracts somewhat from the gravity of her presence. After spending a bit of time with her, the vague sense that she might actually be wild and fierce will only grow stronger. She has no reservations about a friendly bit of fisticuffs, all in the name of being spirited, charitable, and companionable. She doesn't think the weak should bow to the strong and is more than willing to risk her life for the weak. All of this and more explains how she is the exemplar of those walking the righteous path of a believer in God. Even if she is fictional, one could say she has precisely the mindset a pope should.
